A Man and his Dog

Dec 12
                                                      A Man and his Dog

The Good side of the Story

A Man and his Dog walking towards the Sunlight

                                                And here is the Story...

We both woke up early into a beautiful, bright sunlight morning.

My man asked me; “How are you feeling?”

I said: “within the perimeters of my current condition, i feel fine! ”
after many sleepless tortured nights i had managed a two ‘2 hour sleeps’
and this made a difference.

So he said: “Ok! ... i have an offer for you!... I can drive you down the beach,
right next to a bench and we can sit there for as long as you feel comfortable
and enjoy the Sea”

I had not been out for nearly two months and i was missing the Sea terribly,
so i thought this was a great opportunity with such brilliantly mild weather,
to enjoy it one more time and also gage how my strength measures out there.

So we got our keys,  my phone for the camera and off to the beach...

He parked the car less that 20 metres  away from the nearest bench
an equal distance from our lounge room to my bathroom
and after he helped me out the car as soon as my feet touched the ground,
they responded with the same reflex new born babies display:
you hold them upright with their little toes barely touching a surface
and their reflex dictates ‘walk!’...

A rash of euphoria flooded my body and as my legs seemed to have a life of their own
i thought “Perhaps we can keep walking past the bench until i feel i need to sit down!...”

The thought barely completed and only one third close to the bench,
was abruptly replaced by a new more urgent one:  “I need to sit down...Now!...”

I made it to the bench breathless and we sat down for a few minutes
while i was recovering and soaking the sun, the sea, and life so beautiful out there
and i even used the phone camera to take a couple of photos of a man and his dog
walking in pure shimmering sunlight on the water, so bright i could not even see
where i was aiming and whether the targets were on focus.

Judging by the distance they walked and the photos i took, it could not have been
more than 8 minutes total from sitting down and then i started to hyperventilate,
shake, and unable to breath and i asked to return home.

I could not get up... he helped me and supported my body for one third of the way ,
i.e something like three metres walk and then he asked me if i could stand there,
so he could drive the car to me the remaining 6 metres distance i could not make.
I said no, i could not stand and support my body, and it would be awfully difficult
to manoeuvre the car close to me without running me over, lol!...

By the time we made it home i thought i was near my end, shocked and surprised
at how worse my condition is than it appears while living quietly at home
and exerting the least possible effort doing only the lightest briefest of tasks
and mainly sitting down most of the day.

I wept... bitterly... despite his optimistic view that i would recover in a few  days
and i could not ignore the deeper implications and significance
of the shocking reality of my condition.

I knew i was bad... i could not imagine i was that bad...
and strangely it was not legs or pelvic nor even Lungs!..
it was the heart that had not  strength making it... it thumbed hard and laboriously
in to the depths of my stomach while the blood was whooshing all over my body
while circulating, lasting late into the evening and into another sleepless night.

In short... Brocken china on the mantle confined inside the house from now on... unless...

On a Lighter note now because i walk extremely slow wearing only socks for better
sense of stability, my man cracks jokes on me like:

“C’mon ‘Speedy!.. slow down a bit ...you are going too fast!...”

He always manages to make me laugh no matter how bad i feel inside or outside.

Then past it ... stopping for a few seconds and returning...

And that was the end of an Adventurous Day! Lol!

                                                                         * * *
